Spiderman. Who hasn't heard of him? Besides my neighbor Earl, everyone virtually has some idea as to who he is. Hell, an argument could be made that Spiderman is the most recognizable character in mainstream media. So it's no surprise that this game has the single most-achieved Platinum trophy on all of PSNProfiles! But what makes this game so enjoyable to platinum? How did I get my start with this game? Would I recommend it? Where are your parents? These are all questions I will answer here soon, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. I managed to Platinum this game in 1 year, 5 months, 5 days from the moment I earned the first trophy.
Let's travel half a decade into the past. On September 7th, 2018, Marvel's Spider-Man was thwipped into the public hands. People were so excited to get their hands on it and I...didn't even know it existed. Are you shocked? I didn't have many PS4 games at the time, I was too busy being in school. But, just one short month later, this game flew onto my radar. Thanks to one person with a mediocre song. THE STUPENDIUM. That's right, thanks to their song "Pictures of Spider-Man" I knew the game existed and I just had to get my hands on it. 9 months later that is. Yeah, truth be told I didn't get to sink my teeth into the game until my parents heard how I often I would hum the tune and got it for me for my birthday! And now we can actually talk about the game!
Let's get this phrase out of the way while I still have sanity. This game makes you FEEL LIKE SPIDERMAN. I don't want to sound like a broken record and repeat what everyone else has already said about this game but holy cow does this game feel incredible to play. I would kill many men to get to play this game blind again. This game's story is also, in my opinion, the best Spider-Man experience ever. That's a hill I'd die on. Granted, I'll also die on the hill of thinking that Paper Mario: Sticker Star was good so take that as you will.Â
But nothing is without flaw. This game has some great moments, even in the DLC, but having to swing around each district waiting for crime to happen is tedious. It's nothing too major, but it is something. They fixed this in later games, so I can't stay mad.Â
Favorite character? Martin Li for sure. Getting to see him as Mister Negative is always a positive. The character design has always been a favorite because while he could be summed up as a "Positive good guy, Negative bad guy" however, there's so much more to him than that. He makes for such an incredible villain by those tiny negative nuances in his positive persona that seep into it. The sequel explores the opposite effect, but we'll get to that.Â
My favorite trophy would probably have to be "Cat Prints". Getting to complete the search for all of Black Cat's cats as collectibles was actually fun. Â My least favorite would be "Unplugged" because GOD did I hate having to having to deal with Screwball's BS. Shoutout to Stephanie Lemelin for managing to play such an unlikeable character so well.
Those are all my thoughts for now. Thanks to sticking around.
